Georgia 2009 Legislature

Summary information received from the Georgia Department of Revenue identified over 30 legislative proposals related to taxation.  Only one (HB75) appears targeted specifically to agriculture and forestry.  The bill proposes a change in the CUVA language which should make it less difficult for family farm corporations, partnerships, limited partnerships, limited corporations, and limited liability companies to qualify.

Other bills which may affect taxes on agricultural lands relate to mineral rights, assessment caps, increases in homestead exemption, sales tax swap for property tax, and valuation freezes.

None of these proposals had passed 02/11/2009.
